Ales for ALS Collab with Postdoc Brewing

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease, attacks the nerve cells controlling voluntary muscle movement, gradually robbing people of their ability to walk, speak, and eventually breathe on their own. It's a brutal disease, and effective treatments are still hard to come by. That's part of what makes an experimental treatment called bee venom therapy so intriguing: researchers are exploring whether melittin, the primary compound in bee venom, can help ease inflammation, including the kind associated with ALS, and in doing so, improve quality of life for patients. It's not a cure and it's not an approved treatment, but early research suggests real promise.

Watts teamed up with our friends at Postdoc Brewing to brew Bee Venom Therapy, a fresh hop hazy pale supporting the Ales for ALS fundraiser. Bee Venom Therapy is brewed with fresh Citra in the whirlpool from Loftus Ranches, one of the top hop farms in the Yakima Valley, and their Ales for ALS blend in the dry hop.

Each year, Loftus and Yakima Chief Hops put together a special hop blend and send it out to breweries across the country to brew under the Ales for ALS name. In exchange, participating breweries, us included, donate a dollar from every pint sold toward ALS research. This year's blend brings together Citra, Mosaic, Ekuanot, and Columbus hops.

Bee Venom Therapy is a lower ABV hazy pale with a soft body and low bitterness, built to let the hops do the talking. Expect a big citrus hop expression layered with orange, berry, grapefruit, and dank undertones.

Bee Venom Therapy debuts at our Anniversary Party on the 26th and will be available on draft across the Seattle area. A dollar from every pint we pour at the Watts taproom goes to the ALS Therapy Development Institute to help fund ongoing ALS research.
