Melipona

Melipona is a refreshing Mexican lager named after Melipona beecheii, a stingless honeybee from southern Mexico.  The bees were raised for centuries by the ancient Maya who called them “xunan kab” or “royal lady.”  Mayans prized the light, citrusy honey that they used as a sweetener, antiseptic, and important trade commodity.

Our own royal lady treads a path blazed by Mexican breweries over the last 150 years: traditional German lager brewing techniques combined with ingredients grown in the New World. The beer is built on a base of pale North American barley malt supplemented by a bountiful portion of flaked corn. We then garnish it with Vista and Loral hops, both PNW varieties bred to lend their floral and citrus notes to light lagers.

Melipona is the ultimate beer to enjoy in the sun, whether on our new fireside patio or on a beach somewhere. It pours a bright straw gold with a touch of corn on the palate and a delicate crown of lemon blossoms. Catch some while you can, Melipona will be available on draft for a limited time only.
