Lazy Dog
Vulpine Taproom Grand Opening Beer
We brewed this beer for our friends at Vulpine Taproom to celebrate their grand opening! Vulpine Taproom is a new craft beer bar in Lake Forest Park focusing on local beer. Owner Brian Anderson is also a homebrewer, so we took one of his favorite homebrew recipes and scaled it up for a production run.
The Lazy Dog is a full-bodied brown ale, built on the interplay of English style pale ale, crystal, and roast malts. The pale ale base provides heft and a touch of peanut butter, while the crystal malts add a touch of sweetness and amplify the underlying nuttiness. Then the brown and black malts layer in hints of toasted bread and and an almost chocolate-like depth to the beer.
The recipe starts to diverge from its English heritage when we talk about hops and yeast. The Northern Brewer hops, while bred in England, are used at a rate approaching the more assertive American style of brown ale; they’re readily noticeable, but not stealing the show from our tapestry of barley. Then our American ale yeast leaves the beer crisp and vibrant, in a way that softer and fruitier English yeasts can’t match.
The Lazy Dog will be on tap exclusively at the Vulpine Taproom for their grand opening on Thursday, April 22, and throughout opening weekend. Grab a pint while supplies last!
